Case Study

The project context, the problem being addressed, the delivery approach, and the intended outcome.

LankaHarvest Hub is a B2B agricultural export concept designed to connect Sri Lankan producers with Australian buyers through earlier, clearer, and more trustworthy digital supply visibility. Instead of waiting for harvest-ready inventory, the platform centers on pre-listing so both sides can plan ahead.

The website was designed as a responsive and accessible front-end model for a fairer export pipeline based on transparency and stronger buyer planning.

Challenge

Farmers often depend on intermediaries and lack direct visibility to export buyers, while buyers struggle to identify trustworthy upcoming supply from smaller producers.

Approach

Built an export-focused website concept with harvest pre-listing, buyer inquiry flows, and trust-oriented product presentation to bridge the gap between growers and buyers.

Intended impact

Better direct-trade visibility, improved farmer margins, and more transparent procurement communication across borders.

What it is
A B2B agricultural marketplace website.
Why it matters
It promotes fairer direct trade through pre-harvest visibility and clearer digital trust.
Who it serves
Farmers, buyers, and supporting agricultural stakeholders.

Objectives & success

Primary goal
Connect farmers and buyers directly through structured harvest pre-listing.
Supporting goals
Maintain a highly accessible user experience for users with lower digital confidence and less reliable connectivity.
Success criteria
Strong buyer inquiry flow, positive usability feedback, and a clear handover-ready export concept.

Scope & boundaries

Included
Responsive UI, harvest catalog structure, buyer inquiry flows, accessible semantic front-end implementation, and product storytelling.
Excluded
Complex logistics management, shipment tracking, or end-to-end export operations.
Delivery boundary
The website assumes users have at least basic internet access and a manageable path to mobile browsing.

Key contributions

  • Reframed the project as a direct-trade agricultural website with pre-listing and early buyer visibility.
  • Focused the platform on trust, accessibility, and low-bandwidth usability for producers and buyers alike.
  • Used structured harvest presentation to reduce uncertainty and support forward-looking procurement.
  • Connected the concept to rural accessibility through PWA and SMS-related thinking.
  • Positioned the site around ethical trade and export transparency rather than generic catalog browsing.

Skills & learning

  • Export-process storytelling
  • Structured product presentation
  • Cross-border buyer UX
  • Scalable landing-page architecture

Technical & Delivery Strategy

Implementation and rollout notes for the current project approach.

Low-Bandwidth & Accessibility-First Design

  • Build the website with progressive web app thinking so users in rural contexts can load pages with less data and revisit cached content.
  • Allow forms to store progress locally when the connection drops and sync when connectivity returns.
  • Use SMS alerts so farmers can be notified quickly when buyers send inquiries.

B2B Trust & Institutional Partnerships

  • Partner with agricultural cooperatives and the Export Development Board to onboard supply and establish trust.
  • Target Australian procurement managers with direct outreach focused on transparency and direct-trade sourcing.
  • Lead with the value of pre-listing: buyers reduce uncertainty and farmers gain earlier sales visibility.

Risks & Blockers

Open issues, risk posture, dependencies, and assumptions for the current project state.

Language and communication barriers between farmers and buyers.
